1) What is PMP Certification (Project Management Professional)? 

Professional Project Management is a certification earned by an experienced project manager, demonstrating their expertise in leading projects. It highlights their enhanced skills in project management, ability to manage people and work environments, and control over processes.

 

2) What is CAPM Certification? 

Certified Associate in Project Management is a certification that signifies that the holder has the knowledge needed to start a career in project management. This certification is designed for beginners in the field, whether they have limited experience or none at all.

 

3) CAPM and PMP certification  requirements   

Enrolling in the PMP course requires meeting several conditions, which are : 

1- A high school diploma, a diploma certificate, or an equivalent internationally, along with at least 7,500 hours of experience in project management, or completing a minimum of 35 hours of project management education, or holding a CAPM certification

2- A four-year degree, such as a bachelor's, along with at least 4,500 hours of experience in project management, or completing a minimum of 35 hours of project management education, or holding a CAPM certification


And the enrollment's requirements for the CAPM course include :

1- A high school diploma or its equivalent internationally.

2- Completing at least 23 hours of project management education.

 

4) CAPM and PMP Exam Cost


Cost of PMP : The certification exam fee is $405 for members of the Project Management Institute and $555 for non-members.

Cost of CAPM : The certification exam fee is $225 for members of the Project Management Institute and $300 for non-members.

 

5) CAPM and PMP Exam Details

 

PMP Exam Details : 

The certification exam consists of 180 questions, including matching, multiple choice, and fill-in-the-blank types. The duration of the exam is approximately 230 minutes (3 hours and 50 minutes). 42% of the questions focus on people in project management, 50% focus on processes, and 8% focus on the business environment.

1. People: 42%

The people portion includes questions on managing conflict, leading a team, assisting team performance, negotiating project agreements, supporting virtual teams, and other people-related topics.

2. Process: 50%

The process part of the exam covers the tactics used to execute a project. That includes managing communications, assessing risks, engaging stakeholders, planning budgets and schedules, quality management, determining scope, and several other topics.

3. Business: 8%

For the business portion of the exam, you’ll have to learn concepts in planning and managing project compliance, evaluating project benefits and value, addressing external factors for their impact on project scope, and supporting organizational change.

 

CAPM Exam Details : 

The certification exam consists of 150 questions, including multiple-choice responses, drag-and-drop, and interactive animations. The duration of the exam is 180 minutes (3 hours). The questions focus on various areas to integrate different project management methodologies.

6) How Difficult are the PMP and CAPM Exams?

- PMP :

"The exam focuses on assessing the trainee's knowledge of project management aspects. It includes a set of questions about project processes such as: planning, initiation, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing, as well as testing the trainee's understanding of project management scenarios."

- CAPM :

The certification exam is less difficult than the PMP certification exam, as it is primarily aimed at beginners in the field of project management. Therefore, it focuses on project management terms and processes.

 

7) Benefits of PMP and CAPM Certifications

 9) Are they worth it?

Both PMP and CAPM have approval ratings from companies, both certifications were recommended by about 95% of the participants in the Indeed survey .

The Indeed survey showed that people with 50% of the people with CAPM certification believe that the certification helped them secure a job, while 64% of PMP certificate holders believe the same thing.

PMP certification is more demanded then the CAPM certification , and mostly the ones who have the PMP make more money then the ones with a CAPM certification.
